Consultant or Advisor (m/f/d)

in the field of climate change mitigation with a focus on MRV and transparency (full-time) - Berlin

Job summary

As a Consultant/Advisor in adelphi’s Climate Policy Programme, you support our national and international clients in the successful implementation of climate mitigation strategies and programmes, with a focus on MRV, transparency and GHG accounting related issues. Such strategies, programmes and relevant aspects may concern, for example, institutional/regulatory requirements and frameworks for GHG data collection and management at national, sub-national and corporate level, MRV of mitigation and adaptation actions, long-term strategies, low emission development strategies and carbon neutrality, tracking progress in the implementation of countries’ NDCs, reporting under the Enhanced Transparency Framework (ETF), and offsetting standards.

Depending on your background and level of experience, you will:

  • Design and implement targeted and impactful support services for our clients, ranging from expert advise on GHG accounting / MRV / transparency processes and tools, the development of climate mitigation strategies and policies, to project pipeline development
  • Develop materials, trainings, and tools to foster GHG accounting, MRV and / or transparency capacities
  • Coordinate the work of internal and external consulting teams
  • Exchange regularly with clients such as BMU, GIZ, European Commission as well as IFIs
  • Assure the quality and compliance with project terms within your areas of responsibility

As a colleague in our Climate Policy team, you contribute to the strategic orientation and further development of our services; you manage and write successful proposals and participate in other business development activities; you guide and advise junior team members; and you exchange with your colleagues on a regular basis to continuously advance our team’s expertise, quality of services, and team spirit.

What we are looking for:

  • Minimum 3 years work experience in the field of GHG accounting / MRV / transparency with a strong focus on project management and consulting
  • A university degree (or similar qualification) in environmental engineering, political science, finance/economics/business, or social science with additional qualifications in environmental and climate policy, international relations, public policy, or related field of study
  • Commitment to and sincere interest in GHG accounting / MRV / transparency related issues; high motivation to advance national and international climate mitigation agenda’s in direct collaboration with our clients; good overview of relevant recent trends and initiatives
  • Experience in the acquisition, development and implementation of consulting projects and in the design of training measures
  • A solution-, client-, and quality-oriented approach to work; strong analytical and conceptual skills as well as attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to oversee various activities at once ensuring timely and successful implementation; distinctive organizational ability and strong sense of responsibility
  • Confident and friendly appearance in dealing with cooperation partners, clients, and colleagues; open and engaging communication style and great interpersonal skills; dedicated team-player
  • Excellent oral and written expression in English
  • Very good knowledge of common office programs (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Willingness to occasionally travel to project countries for short-term stays

Desired:

  • Knowledge in Corporate Level GHG Accounting, including possibly relevant standards such as ISO 14064-1, GHG-Protocol, and ISO 14040
  • Experience in the design and implementation of GHG accounting tools for financial institutions, e.g. national and regional development banks
  • Knowledge and experience in developing and running trainings
  • Excellent oral and written expression in German, Spanish or French, additional foreign language skills are an advantage
