Team Leader Climate Action Programme (m/f/d)

Fulltime - Middle East Region

 

Your working field

We are currently looking for a Team Leader for a Climate Action Programme in the Middle East Region, which is funded by the German Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU). We are looking for a creative and dynamic personality who wants to positively shape political and social processes on an international level. As team leader, you take responsibility in many areas - from the design of international strategic and knowledge-based dialogues to institutional capacity building and knowledge exchange. Heading an international project team based in the Middle East, you identify concrete starting points for mitigation objectives in the power and energy sectors, create a suitable policy design and road map to implement mitigation objectives and provide technical support for institutional capacity building.

Your tasks

  • You manage all content-related and administrative tasks of an international project team based in the Middle East;
  • You oversee the stocktaking of existing low-carbon strategies and instruments and the development of low-carbon key measures and programmes in the area of energy;
  • You contribute to the establishment of a results-based Monitoring and Evaluation System;
  • You develop and implement strategic and knowledge-based low-carbon policy dialogues and engage in institutional capacity building;
  • You provide technical support to the implementation of prioritized low-carbon measures and programmes.

Your qualifications

  • Higher education diploma at Master level (or equivalent) in climate policy, public policy, energy-related disciplines including economics, engineering, or other relevant qualifications;
  • At least 5 years of working experience among the following areas: NDC implementation, development of mitigation objectives and implementation of related activities, inter-cultural strategic dialogue, policy analysis, institutional capacity building and facilitation of stakeholder processes;
  • Experience as a team leader in at least one project of policy negotiation/capacity building with a focus on renewable energy and energy efficiency;
  • Demonstrable capacity to efficiently manage a project involving multiple counterparts and team members, to be proven by experience of at least 3 years;
  • Previous experience of working in the area of climate change mitigation in the power and energy sector – preferably in the Middle East;
  • Excellent communication skills, ability to work in a team and to adapt easily to a multicultural environment;
  • Fluency in spoken and written English is required, working knowledge of a regionally relevant language is an asset.
