Job summary

The Green and Circular Economy Team at adelphi supports the transitions from take-make-waste economic model towards circular economy, in which products and services are designed to be kept longer in use, regenerative for nature and create minimum waste. We are also working on making international supply chains more sustainable and the broader topics of Sustainable Consumption and Production. We provide public policy advise in projects funded by a wide range of development cooperation partners such as the EU, GIZ, WB, ADB, UNDP and implement strategic research projects and capacity building projects via our non-for profit arm. In addition, we consult private sector companies for setting circularity targets and developing roadmaps to get ready for and go beyond the upcoming circular economy rules and regulations as well as reporting requirements.

We are looking for an experienced senior green and circular economy expert, who can who can lead our work in the textile sector as well as engage with public and private sector clients across other areas. Your tasks

Depending on your background and expertise, responsibilities may include the following:

design and implement research, technical assistance and consulting programmes for green and circular economy with international clients such as the GIZ, EU, WB, ADB and others
lead/manage international projects including contract, budget, and deliverable management
lead and manage business development activities, tenders and proposals working closely with adelphi’s business development team
work closely with our private sector unit Phiyond to develop and implement service offerings for private sector clients in the Circular Economy space.
lead our work in the fashion/textile sector and contribute to other sectors that the team is covering (plastics, electronics) or planning to expand to (buildings, food and agriculture).

Your qualifications

Minimum 10 years work experience in consulting and policy advisory, of which a minimum of 5 years in the green and circular economy field with a strong focus on project management and business development in technical assistance and consulting in the EU and low- and middle-income countries
Advanced university degree in environmental management, engineering, political sciences, macroeconomics or a related field
Technical expertise in the fashion/textile sector, sustainable consumption and production, sustainable business development support, circular economy business practices and models
Excellent insights into one or more of the European circular economy policies and initiatives including a.o. the European Circular Economy Action Plan, Circular Textiles, Plastics Strategy, eco-design for sustainable products regulation, packaging and packaging waste regulation, Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive, Due Diligence Directive, EU Taxonomy, circularity measurement frameworks.
Experience in acquisition, development and implementation of consulting projects
Knowledge and experience in developing and implementing trainings
Strong organizational skills and sense of responsibility
Demonstrated ability to manage various projects at once while still achieving a timely and successful implementation;
A solution-, client-, and quality-oriented approach to work
Business acumen
Creative team player with strong analytical and conceptual skills as well as attention to detail
Willingness to occasionally travel to project countries in and outside EU for short-term assignments
Excellent oral and written expression in German and English
Very good knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of programmes

Desired qualifications

Excellent networks and contacts to clients, partners and other actors in the field of action, in particular to relevant authorities, industry associations, large and medium-scale enterprises
Work/project experience in the MENA region (Middle East and North Africa)
Advanced language skills in French, Spanish or Portuguese
Advanced language skills in Arabic
