Job summary

As a Senior Manager in adelphi’s Sustainable Finance programme, your role is to support international financial institutions (IFIs) and financial intermediaries (FIs) such as commercial banks, national promotional banks, or leasing companies in the successful implementation of sustainable finance strategies and green credit lines / financing instruments.

This particular role will focus on consulting FIs across Europe. The position presents a unique opportunity to shape, constantly advance, and scale sustainable finance advisory services provided to a large network of European FIs, thus contributing to the EU’s climate and environmental objectives.

The successful candidate will quickly take on responsibility and leadership for the consultancy of several FIs and will be part of a growing, dynamic and impact oriented team.

Your tasks

    Depending on your background, expertise, and years of relevant experience, responsibilities will include:

  • Leading sustainable finance consultancy assignments that aim to support European FIs along their green finance journey
  • Managing assignment budget, timelines, and deliverables
  • Designing, implementing, and overseeing sustainable finance support services for FIs
  • Advising FIs on the identification of sustainable finance opportunities
  • Supporting FIs in the integration of green criteria in FI systems and processes
  • Preparing FIs for EU sustainable finance / ESG regulatory requirements (e.g. EU Taxonomy)
  • Leading the development of sustainable finance trainings, eLearning and other capacity building elements targeted at FI staff
  • Implementing trainings and workshops with FI staff
  • Very regular exchange with consulted FIs, the relevant IFI, involved colleagues and other experts
  • Management and mentorship of junior colleagues and own team members
  • Further, as a colleague in our Sustainable Finance programme (20+ colleagues and growing), you advance the team’s strategic goals, contribute actively to business development activities inside and outside Europe, guide and advise team members, and exchange experiences with your colleagues on a regular basis to continuously advance our team’s expertise, quality of services, impact, and team spirit.


Your qualifications

  • Minimum 7 years’ experience (preferably consulting or financial sector) of which minimum 5 years in sustainable finance with a focus on project management
  • A university degree (or similar qualification)
  • Very strong organizational skills and sense of responsibility and a demonstrated ability to manage various projects at once while achieving timely and successful implementation
  • Experience in designing and implementing consultancy services on sustainable finance for commercial banks or other financial sector entities
  • Experience in developing and implementing trainings, and a strong desire to structure and design capacity development elements in a highly compelling and user-oriented manner
  • Commitment to and sincere interest in sustainable finance and a high motivation to advance the European Union’s sustainable finance agenda in direct collaboration with financial institutions
  • Good overview of recent sustainable finance regulations and initiatives in Europe
  • Creative and dynamic team player with strong analytical and conceptual skills and attention to detail
  • Experience with and aptitude for leading staff and very good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent oral and written expression in English
  • Very good knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of programmes
  • Willingness to occasionally travel to project countries for short-term stays.
  • Desired

  • In-depth expertise in one or several of the following topics: IFI green criteria, EU Taxonomy, CSRD, TCFD, climate risk assessment for FIs, impact assessment of green financing operations
  • Previous experience in technical assistance / consultancy assignments for IFIs
  • Excellent oral and written expression in French, Spanish or other (non-German) EU languages (e.g. Portuguese, Polish, Italian)
