Job summary
At adelphi’s business development, we conceive and develop projects that address global challenges and further the transition towards a sustainable future. As Senior Business Development Manager, you will lead our proposals in the area of international cooperation, coordinate a small business development team and help develop market strategies with our project staff.

Your tasks
- Act as a key account manager for bi- and multilateral international cooperation institutions and development banks such as GIZ, AFD, UNDP, EIB, EBRD, EU and World Bank;
- Network with key clients and partners and coordinate the early identification of opportunities;
- Help develop project pipelines for key clients on behalf of thematic programmes in fields such as circular economy, climate policy, carbon markets, water management, energy and green entrepreneurship;
- Manage bids and lead or co-lead negotiations of large, strategically important proposals;
- Ensure smooth handovers of successful project acquisitions to project managers, potentially direct the backstopping for selected large projects;
- Manage a small team of four business developers working on international proposals, assist in resource planning and contribute to personnel development through coaching and feedback
- Contribute to knowledge management on proposals and to reporting on business development results to the management board.
Your qualifications
- At least 7 years of general professional experience in with at least 4 years of specific experience in international project acquisition (leading proposals, setting up winning teams and partnerships, conducting negotiations with clients, experts and partners). Preferably in the fields of climate, energy or sustainability
- Experience in implementing projects, either as an expert or in backstopping, experience in managing client relations and experience in managing personnel will be considered strong assets;
- Prior experience in acquiring projects from the GIZ and from bi- and multilateral development banks will be considered strong assets;
- Prior experience with EU international cooperation DGs (DG INTPA, DG NEAR), with the UN and with further international donors will be considered strong assets;
- Strong communication skills, good team player, together with the ability to work independently and efficiently;
- Coordination, planning and organisation skills;
- Educational background: University Degree, preferably Master’s level in a relevant field of expertise;
- Fluency in English and German (writing and speaking), further languages (especially French, Spanish or Portuguese) are considered assets
